The Cherry Lounge reopened Monday after interior repairs to the roof were completed.
The Cherry Lounge reopened Monday, after a problem with the sprinkler system caused the restaurant to temporarily close.
Dawn Constantine, manager of the Cherry Lounge, explained that despite the Halloween festivities preventing many people from eating at restaurants on Monday, the restaurant’s reopening was a success.
“It went pretty well,” she said “Being it was Halloween, a lot of people were at home trick or treating, but we were pretty busy, so no complaints.”
The Cherry Lounge unexpectedly closed for two weeks beginning in mid-October due to a malfunctioning sprinkler system caused by other tenants in the building located at 326 Cherry Street.
“There was a sprinkler system that accidentally went off,” Constantine said. “There were people up on the property above us doing some work, and they hit a sprinkler and it accidentally went off.”

The Cherry Lounge was recently closed for two weeks after an accident with the restaurant’s sprinkler system caused severe water damage. Photos sent
The sprinkler system caused water to pour into the restaurant’s dining room, storage room and women’s room. As a result of the water damage, Constantine said the restaurant needed to replace the roof, which is why the restaurant was closed for two weeks.
Constantine said it was a challenge for the restaurant to complete the repairs and get it thoroughly cleaned before the restaurant reopened Monday. The restaurant also lost business revenue for two weeks, which is a difficult challenge to navigate as the restaurant already faces rising costs with inflation, supply chain issues and minimum wage increases. However, Constantine said the restaurant is hopeful the insurance will help cover the costs associated with the restaurant’s temporary closure.
Constantine said the community response to the reopening of the Cherry Lounge has been “very positive”.
“I posted on Facebook that we were reopening and all the responses were very positive.” she said
After being in business for 38 years, Constantine said the community members were “happy” to find out the news of the restaurant’s reopening.
“People were happy we were back in business,” she said
The community’s continued support of the Cherry Lounge is very important to Constantine.
“We have some fantastic customers who have been very supportive over the years and we really appreciate the business.” she said “It has kept us going and we hope it will continue for many years to come.”
