Former President Donald Trump’s campaign failed to get approval to include an audio clip of Matt Damon’s speech from the Ben Affleck-directed movie “Air” in a video he shared on social media, according to the production studio co-founded by the actors.
In a Truth Social post on Saturday, Trump shared a video that incorporated clips from his rallies along with audio from Damon, who plays Nike sales representative Sonny Vaccaro in the film about the creation of the Air brand Jordan.
“We had no prior knowledge of, consented to, endorsed or approved any footage or audio from ‘Air’ that the Trump campaign reused as a political ad or for any other use.” a spokesperson for the actors’ production company Artists Equity told Axios national political correspondent Alex Thompson.
A Trump campaign spokesman responded with an emoji in response to the statement, Thompson later reported.
Trump shared the video, along with a donation link, just days after a federal grand jury indicted him on charges related to his handling of classified documents.
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from HuffPost.
The production company is not alone in the entertainment world when it claims that Trump has used material without permission over the years.
Affleck and Damon have also been critical of Trump and have supported Democrats in the past.
Damon, in a 2017 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, called Trump’s actions as president “pernicious” and praised Jimmy Kimmel’s criticism of the former president’s “bipartisan” statements in the wake of the deadly “Unite the Right” demonstration in Charlottesville, Virginia. .
Affleck has also criticized Trump and blasted him after meeting him at a Milan Fashion Week event.
“You knew you were at a cheesy party if Donald Trump was there,” he told The Guardian in 2017.
