Bayer Leverkusen have agreed a season-long loan deal with Chelsea for full-back Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Hudson-Odoi is expected to fly to Germany on Monday for a medical.
The move was in danger of collapsing 24 hours ago as Leverkusen wanted to insert an option into the deal but Chelsea only wanted a direct loan. It will be the first time that the striker is loaned by the club.
Talks began overnight with Hudson-Odoi’s representative, his brother Bradley, able to convince Leverkusen to agree to the deal on terms Chelsea wanted.
Sky Sports News Last week he was told there was late interest from another German club, but the player’s preferred destination is Leverkusen.
Hudson-Odoi and his representatives listened to all the offers and spoke to several clubs before deciding that Leverkusen presented the best option for his development.
As many as 20 clubs, both in England and Europe, were thought to be interested in signing Hudson-Odoi at the start of the summer.
The striker moved through Chelsea’s youth ranks and has two years left on his current contract, scoring 16 goals in 126 appearances since making his first-team debut in 2018.
He came close to joining Borussia Dortmund on loan last summer, only for Chelsea to block the move on deadline day.
Fofana prepared for the Chelsea doctor ahead of the £70m move
Wesley Fofana is due to undergo his Chelsea medical on Monday ahead of a £70m move from Leicester.
Fofana would have flown to the US to do the tests.
Seconds The Athletic, this is for new owner Toddy Boehly’s “peace of mind” after Fofana’s serious injury last season. He missed most of the campaign with a fractured fibula.
Chelsea and Leicester reached a verbal agreement on Friday after a long saga over their valuation. Leicester wanted more than the £80m they received from Manchester United for Harry Maguire.
This had frustrated the player and he sat out the last two games against Chelsea and Southampton.
But Fofana is now expected to sign a six-year deal as a Chelsea player and fulfill his dream of emulating Didier Drogba by playing for the club.
