There are two games left in Vela’s current contract, which expires at the end of the month: on June 26 against the New York Red Bulls and on June 29 against FC Dallas, both at the Bank of California Stadium.
After Saturday’s game, Vela reiterated what we’ve heard from him before: how happy he is to play in the LAFC, to be in Los Angeles, and to feel that things are pending.
But the clock is ticking and no agreement has been officially blocked yet, amid reports of an extension. Vela even had a possible exit from the LAFC, as he confirmed an unchanged contractual situation.
“I think we’ve created a really good team, we’re doing pretty well,” Vela said. “I feel good about being here. I like playing in LA with our fans. And of course I have that in mind, winning a trophy with this club. So my head is always focused on that.
“But in the end, that’s business,” Vela continued. “We’re working on it, but I’m open to being here. But if it doesn’t work, that’s it [does] it doesn’t happen, I’m also open to go and find another place. That’s how football is. Life is like that. It’s nothing to complain about, just look at whether we can make a deal or not. “
