Republican lawmakers called for a hearing on transgender health care Monday evening after hearing emotional accounts from Americans who underwent gender reassignment surgery only to regret it and reverse their procedures.
“We’ve got to get the truth out and we’ve got to be brave. And there’s some uncomfortable terminology being used here today, but without a doubt, this is real,” Rep. Doug LaMalfa, R-Calif., told Fox News. Digital after saying he would request a hearing on the matter. “And for people to go it alone and get, you know, get bad information — we’re elected leaders and so we have to get that and help lead and get good information for people.”
He and other members of the GOP’s new Anti-Woke Caucus, including its chairman Jim Banks, R-Ind., held a panel discussion on Capitol Hill Monday to hear from medical experts who have worked with minors and young adults trying to transition . as well as two activists who have de-transitioned.
The first to speak was Chloe Cole, 18, who described undergoing multiple procedures between the ages of 13 and 17 and said her parents were warned she would kill herself if she was not allowed to transition to a boy .

“They emotionally manipulated my parents, telling them there was no other option but to allow me to start this treatment,” Cole told lawmakers. “They had to choose, they said, between having a dead daughter or a living transgender son.”
“It hurts me that I will never be able to breastfeed my children and experience that unique and beautiful bond. That I may not be able to conceive a child or give birth, or that I may never be able to have that level of sexual functioning or pleasure on par with fully grown adults. formats,” he continued.

He also accused the government of promoting gender-affirmation procedures for profit:
“I think the United States government has either been blissfully ignorant of the fact that this has been going on for over a decade, or they’ve been keeping the public in the dark for personal gain. I’ve learned quite a bit from testifying within state legislatures over the last year. I think the most common lesson is that if the politician, whether Republican or Democrat, is funded by Big Pharma or a big liberal hospital, their moral compass will disappear.”

After Cole spoke, Walt Heyer, 82, recalled his childhood of abuse before recounting his own experience transitioning into adulthood in 1983 and post-transition in 1991. Heyer said his grandma would make her wear a dress when she visited when she was older. four, and that he appreciated the positive affirmation he received from her for this. He blamed it on the subsequent abuse he suffered at the hands of other family members.
“If you don’t think trans kids don’t have far-reaching effects, I want you to hear me. Yes,” Heyer said. “It destroyed my whole childhood. Both Cole and Heyer accused the doctors who guided their transition of abandoning them when they sought help to return to their birth gender.

“They don’t care about the results. They don’t care about what happens,” Heyer said of the industry. “I lost $2 million in revenue because of it [the psychologist] he said i needed hormones and surgery which was for me. I was stupid enough to believe it, it destroyed my life and my marriage. I became an alcoholic and drug addict and became homeless. Now I’m standing up and telling you to stand up and stop this madness.”
After the testimony, Rep. Glenn Grothman, R-Wis., turned to his colleagues on the panel and asked, “I wonder, who should be listening to this?”

He went on to call on the House Energy and Commerce Committee to hold a hearing on the matter.
LaMalfa agreed, adding to witnesses, “It would be great to have people like you.”
“It doesn’t come close and you know, we, not to be too political … we control the House and we can publicize these things,” LaMalfa said. “It has to happen.”
