The actor, who plays Ariel in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake, told People in an interview published Thursday that she lived alone while filming and that it helped her feel connected to the classic song from his “Part of Your World” character.
The film was originally shot in England in March 2020, but filming was delayed until 2021 due to the pandemic.
“We were at the height of the pandemic and suddenly I was living alone in London away from everything I knew,” Bailey said in the video. “So it felt like a different world, and in a way I felt like I was underwater.”
“I was grateful that I had that experience of feeling that isolation, because I got to play with Ariel and how she felt,” she later said.
The actor had previously explained in the interview that his rendition of “Part of Your World” was shot in three parts and involved stunt work and “a lot of physicality”.
Bailey had previously opened up about the grueling physical demands he experienced filming the film.
“I pushed myself as far as I’ve ever pushed myself in my life,” he said.
