A man is in a serious but stable condition after being attacked by a passenger in a car “for an unknown reason” in Greenock.
Police are treating the incident, which happened at around 12.20pm on Easter Monday in Bawhirley Road, near Bellville Avenue, as attempted murder.
The 32-year-old victim was walking with another man and two women when a car drove past him. The passenger then got out of the vehicle before attacking him. The vehicle then sped off.
The injured man was taken by ambulance from Glasgow Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. No one else was injured.
Detective Sergeant Grant Bowie, of Greenock CID, said: “The occupants of the car approached the group when, for an unknown reason, the passenger got out and attacked one of the men.
“At this time, we are not sure if the suspect got back into the vehicle or not, so if you saw someone running from the street, please contact the police.
“Although the attack happened in the early hours of the morning, we hope that someone who lives in the street or is passing by may have seen or heard something that could help our investigation.
“If you have doorbell or dashcam footage that may have captured the attack, or any information about the incident, please contact the police.”
