Picturehouse Entertainment has acquired the rights to the United Kingdom and Ireland from two Cannes Competition titles: by Leonor Serraille Mother and son and that of Tarik Saleh Child Of The Sky.
Mother and son debuts at the Croisette today (April 20) and is sold by mk2 films. It tells the story of a woman who moved from the Ivory Coast to the suburbs of Paris with her two children in the late 1980s and continues to build and deconstruct her family for the next 20 years.
It is the second feature film by French filmmaker Serraille, which won the Golden Camera at Cannes in 2017 with its debut. Young woman.
Picturehouse has also taken on that of Swedish director Saleh Child Of The Sky of Memento International, before its world premiere on Saturday (April 21).
It focuses on the son of a fisherman who wins a place at the prestigious Al-Azhar University in Cairo; only to find himself trapped in a power struggle between Egypt’s religious and political elite when the university’s highest-ranking religious leader dies.
Picturehouse CEO Clare Binns described it Mother and son as “an outstanding piece of confirmatory cinema [Serraille] as the great European director ”, i Child Of The Sky as “an exciting and exciting film by an excellent filmmaker.”
