A 12-year-old boy has died after a garage wall collapsed on a property in the Essex seaside town of Clacton.
Emergency services were called to St John’s Road shortly before 7pm on Friday night.
The boy died at the scene despite efforts to save him, police said.
Another man, aged 30, was rescued from the rubble and suffered an arm injury during the incident.
Their identities have not been released, but both were known to each other, Essex Police said in a statement on Saturday.
The child’s death is being treated as non-suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
The house to which the garage was attached has been declared safe.
During the incident, the Sant Joan road was closed.
Detective Inspector James Hardingham, who is leading the investigation, said his thoughts are with the boy’s family and friends.
“We are continuing our investigations to establish the facts that led to the collapse of the wall.
“If anyone has any information that can help us, or anyone who was in St John’s Road shortly before 7pm last night and saw anything that could help our investigation, please call us “.
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service Station Manager Nick Singleton added: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with everyone who knew the boy and the community of Clacton in general
“Our firefighters worked incredibly hard to save both victims and this is never the outcome we want to see.
“We will offer further support to all firefighters who attended this difficult incident.”
