Speaking of the same, Ayurvedic expert Dr. Rekha Radhamony shared that she recently recovered from the seasonal cold and flu by drinking only dried ginger water. “Dried ginger is considered better than fresh ginger in Ayurveda,” he wrote, while listing four reasons why “dry ginger is the real hero.”
These are some of the health benefits of dry ginger, according to the expert.
Decreasing Vata: According to Dr. Radhamony, fresh ginger increases vata, while dry ginger balances vata. “So chewing fresh ginger or drinking fresh ginger tea for gas and bloating isn’t a great idea. Try dried ginger water.”
Ideal for constipation: “Despite being absorbing (thank you), dry ginger is a mild laxative and great for constipation,” she said. So, if you have trouble passing your bowels in the morning, drink a glass of it dry ginger water
Non-drying: Because of his snigdha or non-drying property, dry ginger is considered good for long-term use. “Fresh ginger is drying (rooksha) and therefore can only be used occasionally,” he added.
Reduces the mucosa: He explained that dry ginger is decreasing kapha and on the other hand fresh ginger is increasing kapha. “So dry ginger water works really well seasonal flu, cold, cough and most upper respiratory tract disorders.”
