Sports bar coming to the old Barleycorn space
A sports bar is coming to the former Barleycorn space at 23 Park Place, Brickyard Craft Kitchen, which will seat 112 plus 36 more at the bar.
They don’t call themselves a sports bar, but they plan to have 40 (!) TVs, so that was the tip. It’s a big space – 6000 square feet across the block to Murray.
The operator, Carlos Rosario, already has a liquor license for a bar in Chelsea, on Community Board 4, which he opened in 2018. He also has a grocery store in Brooklyn that he’s had for 20 years. His attorney called him an “experienced operator” who has been vetted by CB4.
He agreed to a noon-to-midnight schedule on weekends, with noon to 10pm on Sundays.
Residents of Murray Street asked in a letter to the committee that the Murray Street entrance should not be used by groups and that it close earlier – at 9pm – and also that rubbish should be taken out on the Park side Place. Rosario was fine with these plans.
Barleycorn closed in May 2019, following the collapse of the Tent & Trails building in December 2018; the eviction order was still on their building when they threw in the towel.
