A 22-year-old woman has died following a crash in Oswestry.

West Mercia Police said officers are at the scene in Willow Street, where at around 2.50am on Sunday a car mounted the pavement and hit two pedestrians outside the Grill Out restaurant.

Both pedestrians were taken by ambulance to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The 22-year-old woman died shortly after arriving.

The second person was slightly injured.

Police said the vehicle and its driver have not yet been located. The vehicle is believed to be a light gold or champagne colored Volvo.

Detective Inspector Paul Bettison said: “This is clearly a worrying incident and I would like to reassure you that we are doing everything we can to trace the vehicle and the driver.

“Our thoughts go out to the family of the woman who has died as a result of this tragic incident.

“I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time and may have a mobile phone, dash cam or CCTV footage or footage of the incident itself, or the car in the moments leading up to the incident, to contact us on 999, quoting incident number 90i today (October 9).

“We believe there may be multiple passengers in the vehicle, and I also urge them to come forward.

“I would like to thank the members of the public who worked tirelessly at the scene to help the victims and provide crucial first aid.

“Investigations will continue throughout today.”
