A well-known 30-year-old youtuber, who allegedly committed robberies and burglaries at home to finance his luxurious lifestyle, was arrested in Bombay on Thursday, a police official said.
According to VB Nagar police station officer, 14 mobile phones, sharp weapons, counterfeit jewelry and foreign currency were confiscated from the possession of the accused, Abhimanyu Gupta, a social media influencer who once had a large number of followers on TikTok, a video. -Social social networking service is now banned in India.
He allegedly used to commit burglaries at home in Bombay, Navi Mumbai and Thane district to finance his lavish life, moving around with a cap and face mask to hide his identity, the official said. Last week, Gupta broke into a locked house in the suburbs of Kurla and ransacked it with gold and silver ornaments, he said.
The robbery came to light when the family living in the house returned and found that their ornaments were missing. They filed a police complaint. Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Padmakar Patil said: “After the incident we scanned more than 150 CCTV images, but initially we were unable to establish Gupta’s identity as he was wearing a cap and face mask.
But in one place he took off his cap and face mask and we identified him as TikToker Gupta. We then received a warning that the accused would come to Kurla, where we set a trap and caught him. ” he stated.
After committing thefts, Gupta used to steal even shoes and slippers that were stored outside the house, the officer said, adding that police found four rubber bags full of shoes from his home.
The defendant, who has videos with well-known Instagram personalities, has admitted to spending money on casinos and buying expensive clothes, he said. Gupta has been reserved in the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 380 (burglary), Patil added.
